Frequently asked questions.

  • Please click on the "Online Enrollment" tab, and create an account if you do not already have one. If you have an account, please use the email associated with your account, and you will create your own password. To register for a class, add your student to the software, and then the classes appropriate to his/her age will show up. If you click on a desired class, you will see the class description and prerequisites- if any. To finalize enrollment, the $45 registration will be required. ALL students MUST complete a paper copy of the registration packet each year. These forms can be completed at one of the Open Houses or prior to classes beginning.

  • ALL students must sign up for recurring auto-pay for all tuition, costumes and fees. Accounts will be drafted on the 5th of each month. Any unpaid accounts will be charged $35 per month in late fees after the 15th of each month.

  • Monthly statements will be emailed each and every month before the third day. Please look over each statement to verify upcoming charges and drafts to your account BEFORE funds are withdrawn. All accounts will be drafted through recurring autopay on the fifth of each month.

  • EMAIL is our primary method of communication. Please check emails frequently, and please read all content. Notes will be emailed and usually given out as a hard copy in class.

  • If a student must miss class due to illness or potential quarantine, make up lessons will be offered, which are similar classes on a different day and time. Refunds for tuition will not be granted.

  • Should the studio be forced to close, all classes will move to online learning, and tuition will be charged at 50% the current rate.

  • Most non-competitive classes have limited enrollment of 10-16 students per class. We will also have a teacher and an assistant teacher in each class. Competitive teams may vary in the number of those enrolled.

Dancers enrolled in combination classes wear the studio leotard, which is a new leotard yearly. It is priced at $20.00. Combination dancers also need white ballet shoes and black tap shoes. Hip Hop students may wear anything comfortable to move in with tennis shoes. Composite Jazz students should wear studio blue tank top at $20.00 with black shorts or leggings and dance paws. Tumbling students should wear tight dancewear and bare feet. Hair should always be pulled back in a pony-tail. Competitive students should wear required class wear, which will be described in team disclosure statements.

  • All dance wear, shoes, tights, etc. may be purchased right at Shaw Dance Studio. It is necessary to get leotards and required tank tops from the studio, but shoes and tights can be purchased elsewhere if desired; although to save time, our studio stocks all necessary supplies for your convenience.

  • Please see class descriptions embedded in the website, or in the software during the registration process. You may also call or email. The class progression chart embedded in the website may also provide further clarification.

  • This may happen if your child is out of age range for that particular class, or it may be full. In certain circumstances, we will over ride and allow registration, but please email or call the front desk for further assistance in that area.

  • Shaw Dance Studio does not have a traditional observation day, as generally, parent watch day is a wasted lesson. We will have a full parent participation day in February, and there are three other days throughout the traditional school year where parents will be invited in to video during the last fifteen minutes of class.

  • The dance registration is $45.00 per student. This fee covers insurance, monthly accounting, monthly communications, etc. This fee is due upon enrollment each year. The preschool registration fee is $75.00 to help cover the supply cost for these students. (Preschool registration will initially charge $40, but the remaining $35 will be added by our office staff.) There is NO SUMMER registration fee.

  • Every student has the opportunity to perform if desired. Competitive classes will compete in four or five competitions as well as other local events, and all classes will get the chance to be in the studio recitals in January and in May. It is not necessary to have your dancer perform; however, performing is a tremendous learning experience. Summer dancers may perform in our Summer Showcase held mid-July. The performance fee is $40.00.

  • We will charge a recital fee for each of the recitals. The Christmas recital fee will be $25.00 and there will be no ticket charge. The spring recital fee will be $60.00, and will include a trophy, a digital download of all concerts, and the studio concert T-shirt. This fee is reduced from previous years due to required online ticketing by all theaters and venues. Recital tickets for ALL spectators are $5.00 each, and ALL who will take up a seat will need a ticket.

  • We do not offer trial lessons. It is necessary to take class for at least one month to understand if a dancer might enjoy the experience, and to meet insurance requirements.

  • If after one month of class a student is not happy with a class, he/she can try another class, or if he/she truly does not like the class, the student may withdraw with a $75 early withdraw fee. (A spot is saved in the class upon enrollment, and others are turned away.) We highly recommend teaching our children commitment and integrity and sticking with the class throughout the whole session. Remember to complete a drop/add form in the studio office.

  • That is a very personal question for each individual. Usually, our dancers start out in combination classes, then progress to Inspired Company, Expressive Company and eventually Artistic Company. We offer dozens of classes to meet the needs and desires of each student. We also offer many genre-specific classes as well: tumbling, modern, ballet, tap, jazz and hip hop. Our staff would be delighted to help you choose the perfect class for your student. (Please see the flow chart, also on this website for further guidance.

  • Yes!!! There is nothing wrong with doing any class or team for two or more years. Class repetition is actually a good thing where dancers can really master and become proficient at a subject while building confidence and leadership skills.

  • Recreation classes come to practice or class once per month and get the chance to perform in the Christmas and Spring Concerts. Competition teams require some sort of audition or previous experience and will perform and compete quite extensively throughout the year. Competition students usually attend class more than once per week.

  • ALL students must sign up for recurring auto-pay for all tuition, costumes and fees. Accounts will be drafted on the 5th of each month. Any unpaid accounts will be charged $35 per month in late fees.
